Traffic Tickets

South Carolina Traffic Ticket Lawyers

If you have received a traffic ticket in South Carolina, you need to be aware of how the ticket could affect both your car insurance rates as well as your driver’s license points. Pleading guilty to a speeding or reckless driving ticket can result in you paying higher car insurance rates for years. In addition, the points subtracted from your driver’s license could ultimately affect your ability to drive. At Hetrick, Harvin & Bonds, we offer a free initial consultation to explain how the traffic violation could affect you and what our traffic ticket lawyers could do on your behalf if you are cited for offenses such as:

  • Driving under the influence
  • Speeding
  • Improper lane changes
  • Failing to yield right of way
  • Reckless driving
  • Driving without insurance
  • Driving under suspension

An experienced traffic ticket attorney can minimize the effect of a traffic ticket. An experienced lawyer is familiar with both the strengths and the limitations of speed measuring devices such as Radar, Ladar/Lidar and Laser systems. An experienced lawyer is familiar with the law enforcement practices and regulations, and he knows the Court’s procedures. An experienced, local lawyer may even have special knowledge about the geography, traffic patterns, road or weather conditions at the site at which you were ticketed. The lawyers at Hetrick, Harvin & Bonds can put this experience at work for you.

Why not just pay the ticket?

If you simply pay your ticket by mail, you will be convicted of the traffic offense listed on your ticket and face the consequences of such conviction. These consequences will probably include driver’s license points and increased auto insurance costs. More likely than not, a traffic ticket conviction will cost you far more than just the fine listed on your ticket.

What if I have an out of State License?

All uniform traffic ticket convictions in South Carolina are required to be reported to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety which in turn will report all convictions for traffic citations, including speeding tickets, to your home state. In nearly every State, you will receive the same points or suspension that you would have received had your conviction been in that State. Therefore, you should consult the licensing agency in your home state, or a local attorney to determine the exact consequences to your driver’s license. This is very important because in some States, your driver's license could be suspended if you are convicted of excessive speeding (i.e. 15+ MPH over the posted speed limit).

The lawyers at Hetrick, Harvin & Bonds can often assist you with resolving your ticket in a way which minimizes these consequences. Contact us for a free consultation.

In most cases, we can handle your case without the need for an office visit and without a court appearance from you.
